Photography equipment insurance in focus

In the same way that a camera bag protects your camera, so the right photography equipment insurance protects your business.

You rely on your kit as much as your skill in operating it to do your job. A damaged camera or stolen equipment can spell instant trouble.

Replacing gear at short notice is impractical and expensive, and since cancelled jobs mean unhappy customers and lost money, it’s better to take note of what “Photosure” offers.

What does Photosure offer me?

Good question.

So, you have expensive specialist cameras, lenses, and laptop loaded up with image-processing software.

Photography equipment insurance (All Risks basis) specifically designed for the needs of photographers. The cover is also internationally for taking your equipment cross border.

Can I cover just some of my kit with Photosure?

Yes you can.

To make sure you’re not left out of pocket, you need to specify all the items you use to run your business, from the most expensive technical kit to the everyday bits and pieces.

The gear that is used infrequently can be placed on “low risk” cover to protect it against Fire, Theft and Accidental damage whilst stored at home or in the studio.

But be aware that you need to value items at their replacement cost

Photosure will not apply the ‘average rule’ following a claim.

What happens if not having the kit I need stops me working?

A good photography equipment insurance policy will pay for you to hire the kit you need if yours is sent away for repair, or due to theft.

That can be a godsend if you’ve already got jobs booked in. It keeps your revenue on a roll and means you don’t have to risk your reputation by letting clients down at short notice.

Usually, you’ll have to source the equipment you need yourself, but Photosure will assist with this as well if need be.

Does my photography equipment insurance cover me abroad?

Yes it is covered on an international All Risks basis.

How can I help make sure my equipment claim will be successful?

Where photography equipment is concerned, that means making certain you don’t leave your kit anywhere it could easily fall victim to theft.

A simple rule of thumb is to treat your equipment “like it is not insured”

If you leave it in a vehicle, it has to be out of sight in a locked compartment like the boot.

Photographs of any items you no longer have proof-of-purchase for will also be accepted.

Keeping receipts for the equipment, and the packaging will assist.

Photosure will require a list of equipment with make, model and serial numbers when the policy gets written.

Is my equipment covered if it stops working?

Yes you can claim under your all risks insurance if  you drop your camera or lens and it stops functioning as a direct result. That’s straightforward accidental damage.

If your camera or anything else fails during a shoot because of a mechanical or electrical fault, then it’s not covered.

.

What if a shoot gets cancelled?

Photosure will cover your costs incurred following a timely cancellation, preventing you from being öut of pocket”

Will I be covered if my client gets injured?

Yes during a shoot. The client will be covered against physical injury. If need be your assistant can also be covered against injury.

The equipment you are photographing for a client will also be covered against damage or theft from your property or studio.

What about corrupt data cards?

Your data also needs taking care of, so you should make certain to back it up regularly.

But Photosure will pay for recovery costs in the event of data / images gets corrupt.

It is good practice to keep a second copy as a safeguard.
